"3am" by matchbox twenty is a sad song written by lead singer Rob Thomas about his mother who is only given 6 months to live due to cancer. He writes about how sad she has become how depressing life is becoming. He uses the rain as a metaphor to death and how it's gonna "wash" everything away. This songs means to me that the hardships that people face when given tragic news.
